Fashion Story

Hip Hop Fashion has undoubtedly been influenced by history and vice versa. This distinctive and creative style of dressing originated in urban communities throughout the United States. Every region in the country, where there is a thriving hip-hop scene, can also be credited with contributing to what is now known as Hip Hop Fashion. Fashion that was created in the urban hubs of the country not only represent Hip Hop culture as we know it, but also has contributed to the larger world of fashion. One need not be a historian to see how evolution of Hip Hop Fashion has a direct correlation with the evolution of this universal genre of music and history as a whole

Our site, MetroLatinoUsa, serves as a hub of information relating the existence and evolution of Hip Hop Fashion. We embrace and acknowledge the unification of ethnicities and cultures through Hip Hop Fashion and music. Hip Hop music can easily stand out as the genre of music that has significantly influenced fashion. Because the music is oftentimes a direct reflection of society, we can easily pinpoint to a time in history and directly relate that to a particular Hip Hop Fashion trend. In the late 80’s, conscious rap was on the rise. Public Enemy stood out in the forefront and boldly encouraged their followers to stand up for their rights and align themselves with the history of their people. Hip Hop Fashion was rapidly aligned with their musical message. As a result, many youth sported leather African inspired medallions and sported attire inspired by traditional African Kente cloth fabric. This re-emergence of Black Nationalism proved to be influential to the Hip Hop genre of music and affected Hip Hop Fashion which included hairstyles. This transition in Hip Hop Fashion made afros and dreadlocks not only acceptable within the culture but also seen as an alliance with the message of the music at the time.

Some popular and well established brands have benefited significantly from the popularity of Hip Hop Fashion. Nike noticed the connection between the Hip Hop generation and basketball and cleverly created a style of shoe, named after basketball star Michael Jordan. The birth of Sportswear meets Street Wear proved to be a huge turning in Hip Hop Fashion and Nike cashed in big time as they nearly dominated the sneaker market.

Our guess is that history will continue to influence Hip Hop Fashion. At MetroLatinoUsa, we are continuously on the lookout for Hip Hop Fashion trends and will continue to provide our site visitors not only with a glimpse into Hip Hop Fashion, but history as well.

Interview:
The "Best I Ever Had" rapper did his journalistic due diligence with his follow-up question, asking Nicki when we could expect new music, while adding that he thought it would be "really exciting."
"Well, you know, Drizzy, I have been keeping everything sort of stored inside of me," Nicki said. "So I'm just in complete tour mode. Yeah, I've been getting a lot of requests to do some features, but if I can't give myself wholeheartedly, I always pass. I definitely never want to be just doing too many features that they start getting watered-down and I'm not giving my whole, true self."
Nicki said she would focus on recording new material after she's finished with Britney Spears upcoming Femme Fatale tour. One exception the "Moment 4 Life" MC will make to her limited recording is if any of her YMCMB crew come calling.
Drake then asked Nicki if she would be on his forthcoming sophomore album, Take Care, to which she playfully said she would pencil him in.
It was then Nicki's turn as interviewer, and her first question for Drake was what it was like to be back with his Young Money family after touring the U.K. earlier this year. "I truly enjoy these moments," Drake answered. "Especially being in New Orleans. Actually, New Orleans was the first place that I ever really realized that my music was getting out there. I remember walking outside the W [hotel], and there was a guy out there selling mixtapes and he had So Far Gone. I couldn't believe it. I wasn't even mad. You usually think you'll be mad when there's a bootlegger, but I was super excited."
Nicki then asked Drake about the beard-and-curly-hair look he's been rocking lately, and he revealed that it was for a film role. In January, it was reported that the former "Degrassi: The Next Generation" star was Joining the cast of Arbitrage. which is set to star Susan Sarandon and Al Pacino. However, Drake relayed that he has "decided to work on my album instead of doing that particular film."
Seems like Take Care may be arriving sooner than later.
What did you think of Drake and Nicki's interviewing skills? Let us know in the comments!

Hip Hop Culture

Hip Hop Culture originated in African-American during the late 1970's it was a way for young teenagers to express themslves throught music, dancing, but in a form of rapping, breakdancing and graffiti.

Five cultural points:

DJing: One of the few first hip hop dj's was kool Dj Herc who created hip hop through the isolation of "breaks" mixtape Dj's have also emerged creating mixtapes with different artists and add exclusive songs an one disc.

Mcing: Also know as emceeing, spitting bars, rapping or just rhyming. Mcing is performed in time to the beat of the music, lyrics that have meaning like poems.

Graffiti: is recognized as a visual expression of rap music ranging from simple signatures to elaborate wall art.  In America around the late 1960's it was commonly used to express social and political messages. Graffiti is also well identified with the term tagging, forms of imaging or lettering to identify the artist.  Street gangs are also known for tagging to mark their territory .

Breaking: also called B-boying or breakdancing is a dynamic style of dance which developed as a part of the hip hop culture. in 1939's earl tucker invented a type of dancing called snakehips its involving one moving their hips in a fashion intended to look  like the person had no skeleton. Breaking is one of the major elements of hip hop culture.

Beatboxing: is the vocalpercussion of hip hop culture. it is all about art of creating beats, rhythms and the using of human mouth as its a way of creating hip hop music.

SUB CULTURE INTERVIEW

1. Where is your home town?
Los Angeles, California

2. How would you describe your fashion style?
Smart/casual Hip Hop, I'm not into the sagging pants, but I like to represent my culture and have an obsession with coordination, from my watch to hats to my shoelaces.

3. Do you have a job? If so what do you work as?
Upcoming music artist, I class my music as sexual RnB.

4. Do you think its just as important as an artist to write as well as perform?
Yes, I feel as an artist you should be able to express yourself creatively which would mean you should be writing your own material.  There are so many artists in the industry at the moment that are just props for their label.  As an artist who can write you have other avenues like writing for others.  Ne-yo was well known in the industry as a writer before he started singing himself.

5. What clubs/ bars do you go to?
I haven't really visited too many venues in London, but in California I frequent most of the Los Angeles clubs like The House of Blues, Cabana Club, The Living Room etc.  I also like hanging out at different spoken word and open mic venues which are usually coffee shops during the day.

6. Do you think Fashion and Music go hand in hand?
Fashion and Music have always gone hand in hand and always will. A lot of music is inspired by fashion and many fashion trends have started from music.

7.What labels do you wear?
With me its not about labels, its if I like something. If it happens to have a label then cool. I'm more about originality and like to make an outfit work with a mixture of old and new.

8. Where do you shop?
Everywhere and anywhere, from department stores, high street shops and thrift stores.

9. Three things you couldn't live without?
My wife
Magic shave
BBQ sauce

10. What inspires you?
Life, creative children, those living life to the fullest
